Last fall, we learned that payment systems in Trump Hotel Collection properties had been compromised with malware, compromising customers’ payment card numbers for more than a year. Now reports from the banking industry indicate that there might be another breach in one or more Trump hotels –– the second in less than a year.
The Trump Hotel Collection, is not a Franklin Mint line of miniature porcelain hotels covered with gold plating and Swarovski crystals, but is a the chain of nine five-star resorts that’s part of the Trump Organization, an umbrella company for the business interests of developer and presidential candidate Donald Trump and his family.
The Trump Hotels may have the fanciest clientele of the hospitality businesses hit recently, but other hotel chains including Hyatt and Hilton also had breaches in their payment systems.
Sources in banks told cybersecurity reporter Brian Krebs that they’re seeing fraudulent transactions on cards with one thing in common: they were used at hotels in the Trump Collection.
The company told Krebs on Security that it is investigating the reports of a possible breach. “We are committed to safeguarding all guests’ personal information and will continue to do so vigilantly,” they said in a written statement.
