It’s National Doughnut Day: Here’s Where To Get Free Doughnuts

If you woke up this morning not realizing you’ve got an excuse to eat doughnuts (or donuts) all day long, let us provide you with some exciting news: Today is National Doughnut Day, which clearly means it is your prerogative to dump fried dough down your gullet all day. Also, it’s Friday, so double reason. But where to score the free dough, that is the question.

Free is a bit of a stretch at Dunkin’ Donuts today, as the chain is offering a free doughnut of your choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of any beverage. You don’t have to try to head there early either, the offer is good all day June 5 at participating locations nationwide.

Competitor Krispy Kreme is offering one free — yes, totally free! — doughnut per guest today, with no purchase required. Unless you live in Connecticut, where apparently the doughnut is not revered as the blessed, doughy being that it is.

Participating Winn-Dixie grocery stores are offering one free powdered sugar donut hole today in their in-store bakeries, with a limit of one and only one hole per customer.

Tim Hortons is giving away a free doughnut with any purchase for customers that print or show their National Doughnut Day Offer from the company Facebook page, available all day.

Honey Dew Donuts is handing out one free Mocha Madness doughnut with the purchase of any medium drink at participating locations, all day.

Cumberland Farms will bestow one free doughnut with the purchase of a hot or iced coffee or Chill Zone beverage — but only between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. so you better hurry if you’re reading this on the East Coast.

While it’s not a store, Entenmann’s is giving away a chance for 100 people to win a year’s supply of Entenmann’s donuts, and will donate $1 to the Salvation Army up to $30,000 for every entrant.

Why the Salvation Army? National Doughnut day was first celebrated on 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, and is traditionally celebrated on the first day of June.

And if chains aren’t your style but you’ve got a local baker or doughnut shop near you, you might want to swing by or call, as they could have specials and freebies going on today as well.
