Lyft Slashing Weekday Rides In NYC By Half

Hitching a ride in a Lyft in New York City will be a bit more forgiving on your wallet this week: the ride-hailing company plans to cut weekday trip prices in half for a limited time.

In addition to providing riders with discounts, The Verge reports that Lyft will incentivize drivers by forgoing the collection of its typical pre-fare commission, as well as providing operators with 100% of their fares before rider discounts.

The promotions come after Lyft announced it was averaging about 11 million rides per month nationwide.

“We’ve had a fantastic year of growth and increasing market share,” a Lyft spokesperson said. “The passenger promotion and driver incentive are also our way of saying thanks to the two sides of our community that have made this unprecedented growth possible.”

Lyft’s largest rival Uber previously reduced the prices of their typical rides for select services in NYC. In January, Uber attempted to increase ridership by cutting UberX and UberXL services by 15%.
