$6.3 Million In Refunds Going Out To Buyers Of Book Written By Convicted Liar Kevin Trudeau

More than two years after “author,” infomercial pitchman, and professional liar Kevin Trudeau was sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeatedly making bogus weight-loss claims about his book The Weight Loss Cure “They” Don’t Want You to Know About, some of the hundreds of thousands of people conned into buying the book will be getting their money back.

In the infomercial marketing for the The Weight Loss Cure…, Trudeau claimed that it was an “easy-to-follow” diet when if fact it requires, among other things, and prescription injections of hormones found only in pregnant women.

He was found in contempt of court in 2007 for violating a previous court order prohibiting from making misleading statements in his infomercials, but he continued to soldier on with his lies.

In Nov. 2013, he was found guilty of criminal contempt for his continued assertions in marketing materials that the diet required no exercise when, in reality, it calls for an hour of walking each day, along with a sub-starvation level diet of only 500 calories a day.

Last July, a federal court in Illinois finally approved a plan that would refund $11 to people who had previously been identified as purchasers of the book, which is believed to have sold some 800,000 copies.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, checks totaling $6.3 million are in the process of being sent out to those people. Anyone who receives a check is being asked to cash or deposit it before Aug. 25, 2016.

The FTC has set up this web page with more information about the scammy book and the refunds.
