Who Knew Tinder Allowed Minors On The App?

If you’re under 18, it’s time to find a new way to seek out suitable peers for the purpose of dating: Tinder is changing the rules, and will only let adults use the app from now on. Wait, what?

Yes, unbeknownst to yours truly and likely many others in the over-18 set, Tinder allowed users 13-17 to swipe left or right on their peers in a special pool for minors only.

Not anymore, Tinder VP of Communications Rosette Pambakian told TechCrunch.

“We’ve been reviewing this policy since early this year and believe it’s the right thing to do,” said Pambakian.

Here’s the full statement:

“On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences. Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward. This change will take effect next week.”

This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll see all the teenagers you know suddenly bemoaning the loss of Tinder and begrudgingly resorting to face-to-face interactions, as the company says the change will impact less than 3% of the global user base.

Here’s what we want to know, though…
