Camera Catches Tow Truck Driver Taking $110K Sports Car On An Alleged Joyride

A tow truck driver in Texas was unable to resist the lure of a $110,000 sports car: he took the vehicle out for a joyride before delivering it to its destination — a joyride that was caught on the car’s camera system.

The owner of the Nissan GTR tells Click2Houston that the vehicle is a prized possession.

“It’s an exotic sports car,” he said. “It can go 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds. It’s an extremely fun car to drive, put it that way.”

But the car started acting up over the weekend, so he arranged to have it towed to a Nissan dealership on Sunday. He called on Monday to check on it, and got the news that his car had never arrived.

He contacted the tow truck company and says he was told the driver had brought the car to their lot because the Nissan dealership was closed on Sunday. His suspicions were raised, however, so after he picked it up from the dealership, he checked the video from his car’s system. It records not only images but audio, speeds, and GPS whenever the car is turned on.

He found several minutes of video someone driving the car, someone who admits that the car belongs to a customer and that he almost lost control of the vehicle.

“B——, this car is fast as f—,” a voice says, apparently to other people in the car. “Oh my God, dude.”

The car starts to make a funny noise at one point, which isn’t odd, considering the owner had intended to send it in to be serviced. Eventually around 2 a.m., the camera turns off.

“They broke the law,” the owner says. “They took it without my permission, they drove it recklessly. Driving 75 miles per hour through a crowded neighborhood with kids playing on the sidewalk.”

He alerted police, who say they’re investigating and will bring the case to the District Attorney’s office.
